Manhattan Reefs is an open community of marine aquarium enthusiasts who, through our hobby, share a passion for scientific exploration and preservation of one of the worlds greatest natural resources --coral reefs.

Founded in 2001 by a group of like minded aquarists who were interested in growing their own coral fragments and exchanging them at various social functions, we are now the largest reef aquarium community in the Tri-State Area. Twice a year we hold arguably the largest open coral exchanges on the East Coast (“Frag Swaps”). The community also sponsors other unique regional activities including educational events, tank re-stockings, community development work, poker nights, barbecues, etc. providing opportunities for experienced hobbyists, beginners, and professionals to engage each other in a friendly environment geared toward the advancement of the hobby.

We like to think of ourselves as a family—a rather large, diverse and rapidly growing one. Our members bring with them an amazing array of interests, talents and backgrounds and we encourage them to bring these unique perspectives to bear on the hobby that unites us. We welcome you to join us, but there are a few things you should know :

• If you are engaging in any sort of profitable activities, you must follow our Vendor Rules.
• If you cannot meet and communicate about a common interest with your fellow hobbyists without getting into arguments, we ask that you reconsider your inclusion in this community.

If you’d like to be part of this wonderful community simply relax, dive in, introduce yourself and search through the amazing amount of collective wisdom to be found in these pages. Please share your experiences and post your questions. Your fellow hobbyists are here to help.

Enjoy your stay.
